Things to Know
An empty
stomach or near empty stomach is always best.
Whenever
possible, please refrain from perfumes and heavy scents as a courtesy to instructors and
other students. Also, if you are a smoker, please be mindful of smoking right before
classes since the aroma can be overwhelming to other students.
All classes are
ongoing unless otherwise stated.
We are striving
for our classes to be a positive, healthy experience for everyone. If something is not
working for you, please let us know - we value all feedback!
Wear
comfortable light clothing that allows maximum movement. Layers may also be helpful
so you can adjust your body temperature and be as comfortable as possible.
Please let your
teacher know about injuries or conditions that may affect your practice. The teacher
can then make suggestions on modifications to poses.
Please turn off
all cell phones during classes.
Tips for New Students
At Harmony we welcome all new
students. Here are a few tips for your first class:
All beginning
students who are new to yoga should start with Yoga I or Gentle Yoga classes.
Unless
otherwise noted, all of the classes on our schedule are on-going. That means there is no
need to pre-register.
Try to come
5-15 minutes early for your classes, so you can take your time to settle in.
Wear
comfortable clothes such as sweats, leggings, t-shirts, tank tops. No shoes will be
needed. Layers may also be helpful so you can adjust your body temperature and be as
comfortable as possible.
Please tell the
instructor about any ongoing injuries, pregnancy, or medical conditions before the start
of the class.
Be sure to
sign-up for our e-mail list for class updates, changes and other news.

Frequently Asked
Questions
Can Men Do Yoga?
Yes! Until very recently, in fact, yoga was practiced exclusively by men. We hear
from men who are concerned that they will feel uncomfortable in a yoga class or that they
are not flexible enough to try yoga. However, yoga will improve your flexibility and you
do not need to be flexible to do it. Since yoga has been practiced by men for so long,
many of the poses actually make more sense for a man's body and some require a lot of
upper body strength.
What is Yoga?
The word yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where
yoga originated. We can think of the union occurring between mind, body and spirit.
What is commonly referred to as "hatha
yoga" can be more accurately described by the Sanskrit word asana, which
refers to the practice of physical postures or poses.
Do I Need a Mat? What Should I
Bring?
Harmony offers mats for you to use if you do not have one, as well as blocks,
straps and blankets. We also have a Poland Springs dispenser (so you do not need to
bring a water bottle) and we provide herbal teas (so you can enjoy a cup of hot tea after
class).
Don't I Need To Get In Shape First?
No ! There is no better time than right now to begin your yoga practice.
Yoga is not a competitive sport. Every student attends classes for a variety
of personal reasons and they are not there to watch or judge your practice. In yoga,
physical fitness begins inside, at your core, and then radiates to your outer life in the
form of other exercises, dietary choices, etc. Once we get our core beliefs and
perceptions "in shape" the body naturally follows!
